The geographically based Area Group
Some attenders live on the south side of South Bend, close to the church building. But many who attend Kern Road Mennonite drive a distance to participate. The most basic groups in the congregation, to which everyone is a part, are our geographically based Area Groups. The congregation is divided into six regions. Each is led by an Elder or co-elders. These individuals provide some basic pastoral care and serve as a communication link to a primary leadership group of the congregation, The Ministerial Leadership Team. The overarching purpose of the six regional Area Groups is: • WELCOME – Area groups warmly welcome KRMC new attenders and help people to begin to develop relationships with others in the larger church. • SUPPORT – Area groups are groups where everyone who calls Kern Road their church home can experience basic support and care, especially in times of crisis or transition. • COMMUNICATION – Area Groups provide a place for whole church conversations, education, and decision-making as we pursue the mission of the church together. If you were to begin attending the congregation, an Area Group might be a good place to begin to learn to know familiar names and faces in the congregation. The Area Group is also a good place to begin to learn to know more about the larger congregation too. You would also quickly learn if there are others in the congregation who live in your neighborhood or region. Other small groups exist with in the congregation and are organized by interest area, proximity, and relational needs. |
