Kern Road Mennonite Church
Worship Philosophy

Worship is the central activity of the gathered church. In worship the community gathers together to celebrate our connection to God and to one another.

We want worship to be an event in which:
• We give God adoration and praise.
• We open ourselves to the majesty, joy, and mystery of God.
• We celebrate the tenderness and love with which God approaches humankind through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
• We have opportunity for introspection and confession.
• We experience the assurance of forgiveness and God's grace.
• We read and reflect on the Bible to learn the words of faith and remember the mighty acts of God.
• We hear and discern God's word to us with the help of the Bible, the Holy Spirit and one another.
• We share our gifts and participate in the gathered community.
• We respond to God's initiative and offer our resources and ourselves to advance God's
purpose.

What you can expect in worship at Kern Road Mennonite Church--
• We like to use the gifts of people in the congregation as we worship together. Rather than focusing on a particular worship style, our emphasis is on calling out the gifts in a variety of people.
• Our worship series are based on the seasons of the church year, the study of various
books of the Bible, our Mission and Vision Statements, and themes of Christian life and faith.
• We celebrate the Lord’s Supper 6-8 times a year. All who have publicly proclaimed their
faith in Jesus Christ are welcome to join in the Lord’s Supper. Those who have not yet
made a public confession of faith may come to receive a blessing from a pastor or elder.
• Several times a year we offer a service of anointing with oil in our corporate worship. Any individual may come for prayer and anointing for any situation. A pastor or elder will pray with you and make the sign of the cross on your forehead.
• Each Sunday we sing a song of blessing and praise as we offer our financial gifts for the work of God.
